Blueprint APS Next Steps Impacting South Middle School
We want to follow up with you on the Blueprint APS repurposing recommendations we presented to the APS Board of Education. During its meeting last night, the Board approved the recommendation to gradually repurpose South Middle School. This means that South will not accept 6th grade students next year and will only serve 7th and 8th grade students (for the 2021-22 school year). South will be repurposed for an alternate educational use gradually over the next two school years. All current South Middle School students will have the opportunity to complete middle school at South before transitioning to high school, which means that the full repurposing of South will be completed by the beginning of the 2023-24 school year. That is when a new Preschool through 8th grade (P-8) school will open at the Lyn Knoll site.
